Routing MIDI controlled audio->audio plugins

Specifically I'm trying to get the DFX Rez Synth to work. I found an old thread about this but it didn't address my issue, it just made it sound like there is a solution.
I'm using the windows VST. The plugin takes audio and outputs audio, but it is controlled by MIDI notes, and I can't figure out how to set it up. Live only recognizes it as an audio effect. MIDI tracks don't have 'audio from' routing and audio tracks don't take MIDI, so I'm at a loss.
I'm sure I've had this problem with other plugins as well so I'd like to know if it's possible to use them or if they simply aren't written so that Live can support them.

Hi,
Have you tried this:
-use a MIDI track, and in the output chooser, select the audio track containing the plugin in the 'MIDI to' chooser, and the name of the plugin should appear in the chooser below. Then, the MIDI track will be able to send data to the plugin.
Hope that helps,
Amaury

Yeah that's what I tried,
but audio tracks do not appear in the MIDI output routing boxes

Hi,
For me it does if these tw conditions are true:
-The plugin is already in the audio track
-the plugin is able to receive MIDI data
I could not try with DFX Rez though.

Hi,
I just tried using DFX Rez, and it works as I described above.

Thank you very much, that did it.
Live's interface is so great in every other respect, but IMO it kind of falls down vs. programs that let route signals by drawing lines between objects.

ugh. that was why I dumped logic.

Really? Maybe I just haven't had a messy enough project...
In this case it wouldn't have been a problem if the audio channel with the plugin had a 'MIDI From' field appear somewhere, since it's possible. The program obviously knows what's going on since the MIDI channel can display the plugin as a target.
