New Order

and just to be clear, as much as I like the earlier ghey synth pop stuff, what I really like about them is their rock songs, as well as the ability to blend organic instruments seemlessly into their dance songs.

I also love how they are horrible musicians but know how to use technology to make good music. I take that ability to heart. Mainly because I suck too.

Exceptionally well said. Best band ever, even if they are currently squabbling like kids.

It's mainly hooky being a butt, I think. They need to sit down and listen to their songs together and then realize how little their "issues" are compared to how relevant/important being together is. Especially them.

Well, the "President's Own" Marine band is very precise, but lacks musicality. I lean toward the Eastman Wind Ensemble for their brilliant performances of Copland's Quiet City and Husa's Music for Prague. Also the University of North Texas and Cincinnati Conservatory recordings under the direction on Eugene Coporon are excellent.

Or maybe you just meant for me to say....The Violent Femmes.

y'all know my fave, but I'm still waiting for someone to say Radiohead. Ok Computer and Kid A are prolly two of the greatest records in 20 years.

wow... many electronic heads around...

Speaking technically-groove wise I have to stick somewhere in between Funkadelic (bootsy classical formation, Americas Eat its Young) and Sly and the Family Stone;

ya know, I'm a bassist.

but no one has beated the beatles in songwriting and importance

I suppose the Beatles are super relevant to people who grew up then...I mean they did pioneer and influence all through the 60s and 70s, but I just don't "get" their genius. In the same way that I'm sure my son will never "get" the genius of New Order. It's like you have to experience the ground breaking when it happened, or it's just some that happened and you have to take the word of those who experienced it.
