..and then edited out a loop of that track, using both start and end loop markers.

Now how do I save just that looped section as a clip?

The manual is kind of vague in this area, eludes to the fact you can just "drag" the clip from Arrangement view to Session view to automatically create a clip.

Do I not worry about the stuff before and after my loop and just let the loop markers guarantee the part I want, plays as a clip? Or should my finished clip be just the audio signal I want, and saved as a file with a name specific to that clip, like "Drum track1"?

Be kind I am an idiot.

Just drag it to the browser inside Live. If you want to save it as a self contained clip, do a Consolidate first. Otherwise Live will still reference the original file.

you are working way too hard
just highlight the area, then go to the edit dropdown menu,
select either split or cosolidate.
go back and right-click on the new header you created and select rename.
name it something. now you can drag and drop it somewhere or copy and paste
it to session view.
my point being, is that when you split or consolidate you have already created
a new clip.
