MIDI Envelopes editing in Clip View

Post by beubbo » Mon Sep 03, 2007 6:20 pm

Hi,

Is it normal in Clip View that Envelope's datas don't follow corresponding Midi notes when the latter are selected in Note View and moved elsewhere in the same clip ?

I did some edition on a Midi Clip in Note View with Sustain's controller datas (piano track) and was very surprised to see that when I moved a portion of selected Midi Notes elsewhere in the same clip the corresponding portion of Sustain controller wasn't *following* the moved Midi Notes...

Is it a limitation by design ?

If yes (pretty lame, uh ?), any workaround other than to copy the Midi clip in the Arrange View and edit there or in Clip View to duplicate the selection in Envelopes View with corresponding portion of Sustain controller selected again as were previously corresponding Midi Notes ?

If not, could it be possible to implement the ability in the Clip View to copy/paste/delete in Note View all MIDI datas at once (Midi Notes AND all Midi Envelopes) ?

Thanks
B

It's a "limitation" (if you want so) by the MIDI specification. Note events and controller events are independent from each other. No DAW or sequencer that I'm aware of can 'lock' sustain events to specific notes.

Well thanks for the reply but I wasn't meaning "locked sustain events to specific notes" but rather having at least the option to move "inside" a Midi Clip a selected portion of Midi Notes from the NOTES View with its corresponding Clip Envelope(s) events, all in one go (particulary if these Envelopes aren't Unlocked that is usually the case with Sustain type events)

Actually if you want to copy or move elsewhere inside a Midi Clip a portion of Midi Notes played with Sustain events, you have to select one at a time the Midi Notes you want to copy/move in Clip NOTES View & Copy+Paste at the desired place AND reselect the same portion of corresponding Sustain Envelope events in Clip ENVELOPES View & Copy+Paste at the same desired place. Pretty...lam...tedious if you're doing some heavy Midi Editing inside a Midi Clip with more than one Midi Envelopes to copy/move, uh ?
