MIDI settings for Live 6 - Please help.

Hi all,
I'm new to Ableton and have just bought my 1st MIDI controller/keyboard.
The MIDI model - is a CME UF5.
I've ran the patch so it works on Vista. It worked briely with Acid Pro using the N.I FM synth plug-in.
I cannot get it to work on Live at all.
Is there an idiots guide for setting up a MIDI controller/keyboard with Live?
I've been into preferences, changed various settings but nothing.
I know nothing about MIDI controllers so I'm really struggling.
Would one of you kind souls be able to explain to me (or even post a link) to a beginners guide to setting up a MIDI coontroller with Live. I've tried the suggestions in the LIVE manual but still nothing.
