How to do that "Pole" sounding dub stab sound?

Hello,
Alrighty, I'm sitting listening to pole, and I decide, hmmm dub stabs sound good. Actually really good. I'm not at all aiming to sound like Pole, they pretty much cover that... but the basics of the dub stab sound kind of eludes me.
I usually program squiggly evolving sounds in massive or layered fabfilter twins. And the twin seems like the right tool for the job, but does anyone know what the envelopes are routed to in "the classic dub stab sound". It's some kind of filter sweep - that's given, I just can't seem to get the right sound...
Does anyone do dub?

Pitch Black shows how they get a dub sound like the one you're after. filter sweeps with delay.

Yeah, the eq sweep is kinda cool... but it's not really fx I'm looking for, the delays are fairly simple.
What I was looking for was that kinda stabby dub sound, as in the synth preset - which is then often feed into a ton of reverb. Not an organ sound... more like the new tech-dub stab...

its really not that hard, you play a chord with a sharp sounding patch and you have a dub stab. add efx! tweak to taste.

It's the stab that kicks in a second after it starts.
The delays and reverbs I got... I just can't get exactly that sound from my fabfilter or massive.

Your talking bout the big subby basslien thing?
In massive:
Set up a blank massive
set OSC 1 to sin - sqr ( ithink its that one, whatever one startes with sine will do)
turn the wavetable all the way to the left ( so its a pure sine wav )
draw in the stab in ablton midi.
On the OSC 1 in massive, drop it to like -24 or -12, basically whatever till you almost can't hear it no more. YOu might want to to route this osc to a lowpass filter and cut all the top of it.
thatll get you a nice big deep sub noise.
Now turn on reverb on effect 1 and adjust to taste. Maybe a delay too.
Short attack and also sounds like you might want to open the release up a bit too.
I'm not to hot with synthesis , but thats how i would attempt that noise!
try different waveforms instead of sine btw

Hehe, thanks though.
I can manage a pure sine... I've learned, through years of mastering and music production... that a sine always sounds like "wooooooooo"
I think that sine has some noise in it by the way, a little brown rumble noise, Pole always use that.
It's so rare I go for that sine bass though, a part of me just doesn't find it satisfactory to just use one osc, even though I should just go with simple sometimes.

chords with a very stabby volume and filter envelopes.
lots of reverb.. some dubby delay..
to get that metallic sound you can also try adding a ping pong delay, turning the sync off and in time mode have it set to 1ms then the feedback up quite high and the dry/wet to taste..

If you wanna hear the new school, you should check out music by POLe from germany.
Some of the most used instruments in classic reggae are from the Hohner D6 Clavinet, the Hammond B3 and the Wurlitzer. Hammond is that distinctive organ sound. Clavinet is that short funky sound you hear on B. Marley 'pimpers paradise' and countless other tracks.
As people have pointed out, if you run them through a slow phaser their sound will change with each skank, and also sound a little more Guitar-like.
Myself, I got a bunch of old analog and digital synths, but these days i use Reason the most. Load a Wurly or Clavinet or Hammond multisample into your sample and play staccato chords. In your mixer, set up a phaser on one aux, a short reverb on another, and a delay followed by a bandpass filter on a third.

Thanks jes! that was exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I guess I'll just be firing up doing some triangles and sines and doing an hammond kind of sound. The phaser actually struck me when I listened to it before...
