SO I AM RUNNING LIVE IN A LIVE BAND SITUATION.. WE ARE LOOKING TO ROUTE VOCALS FROM THE VOCALISTS MIC, RUN THEM THROUGH LIVE (THEN THROUGH A VOCODER PLUGIN) THEN BACK TO FRONT OF HOUSE....
ANYONE GOT ANY BRIGHT IDEAS ON HOW TO DO THIS - AND ALSO CHOICE OF VOCODER THAT CAN DO EXACTLY THIS....
IM GUESSING SOME SORT OF A/B THING FOR THE MIC TO GO INTO, A BEING FOH AND B BEING TO THE MACBOOK FOR THE VOCODER...
IT WORKS IN MY MIND, BUT CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A HAND WITH EXACTLY HOW THIS IS DONE?

Howdy, another from WA then hey?
There are quite a few Vocoder plugins available although most of them sound crap. Best is probably ELS Vocoder (from what I've heard).
Otherwise, others are NI Vokator, mda Talkbox, etc. There's not too many unfortunately.
Try the demo of ELS or NI Vokator. And try do a search on this forum to figure out how to use it.

your other big issue with using a decent software vocoder is latency...some of them add a bit more than the average plug-in.
this is why i use the hardware vocoder in my nord micro on stage...that and coz it sounds sick

try it sometime..
if you speak from the back it sounds better as the fan grill tapers and you can get closer to the fanblades... speak with the fan on and you sound all vocoded n shit.

thanks for all the replies! love the fan idea ill just set that up in front of the mic with a pop filter.
audio card is a firewire audiophille
big hello to my man from perth also! whats up brother! haha.
also if anyone has any idea on what mic would work best for this? for live obviously i have a couple of beta 58s and an sm57 handy.. but is there anything you think could work better...
** also concerned about latency.. how long latency are we talking?
