Software Slow-down After Save

Hi lads,
New to the software and the forum and would appreciate any assistance.
When I open a session, Live 3 seems to breeze along at a good pace. However, as soon as I save the Live session, the system crawls at a snail's pace -- what gives? CPU usage only shows 8-11 %.
