OVERALL VOLUME ADJUSTMENT

I had posted a topic to see if live had this option and found out that it didn't.......but I was working with a friend who uses Sonar.......and there is a feature that lets you globally adjust the volume of each individual track...you just type in the db about + or - and it moves all tracks to the desired level...this would be a huge help as u get towards the end of a production and need to bring the levels down without having to manually reset each volume control before sending through mastering chain

Yes I thought a hotkey would do this but have not found it, maybe right clicking any fader to adjust all faders would be a good solution.

Another idea: a feature where you, after setting the master volume to a value other than 0 db, apply a command that resets the master volume up or down to 0 db and set the volume of the individual tracks down or up accordingly.

Or even better: What I said above could be automated in a way that the master volume fader doesn't react on dragging it up or down at all but the individual track volume faders go up or down accordingly.

btw.: I always control the master volume of my sets by simply setting the master volume fader but some folks here think it's a different thing if you set all individual by the same amount or if you just set the master volume and that you always should let the latter on 0 db. And that despite the benefits of internal 32 bit floating point with its huge headroom.

I guess the problem is that when you have volume automation for any track, this becomes a quite complex task: All the automation will have to be scaled. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely want this feature, too - just think that it will be a hard thing to progamm for the Ableton team.

For the time being, whenever I need more headroom and have to scale all individual tracks down, I use VertexDSP FaderWorks. I insert it on all tracks (except anything that gets post fader signals from other tracks, i.e. subgroups/busses) and can then control the level of all tracks with a single slider.

And yes, it does make a huge difference opposed to just lowering the level on the Master fader.

Wow, I didn't know those. Look very handy indeed!

O.K., O.K., I might be wrong for some reason and I admit my side blow being OT on the feature wishlist cause its a general discussion and would belong there.

But what about this one: In a future release you change the master volume. It looks like the old behaviour and all automation data will be left untouched, but: internally - meaning in the guts of the program without the user seeing it - the individual track levels are adjusted so that it sounds like you adjusted them manually. Result: as convenient as lazily dialling the master volume down but as professional sounding like turning all the individual tracks down by the same db-amount.
