Is there an efficient way to do this? I have a few that I would love to use on my macbook... I imagine the answer is no, but it doesnt hurt to ask.

the thing is, if software is really all 1's and 0's then there should be a way to do this kind of thing with some kind of plugin wrapper but of course the answer is NOOO.

its not that simple

each OS has its own language so to speak of how applications ask the OS for things like memory and cpu etc..

its this OS layer which is the problem.

I know, in my simple mind though it just seems like it would be theoretically possible if maybe quite heavy on cpu to translate. but I know thats just cause I don't know enough about the complications of such things.

there are compliant API's like W.I.N.E. or virtualization methods such as Parallels.. quite taxing on the CPU and probably not able to handle VST's in specific.

What exactly is Parallels? Isnt it basicaly just virtual PC? So technically I'd still be running windows, not really using it on the mac. Or is it like w.i.n.e. where it would runin mac?

The solution I've been enjoying: Bootcamp 1.4 + WinXP on my Mac Book Pro. Windows runs lightning fast since it is running natively on the CPU. Live still operates virtually identically to live running on MacOSX and there's no performance hit.

Of course not every Mac guy out there enjoys the prospect of running DAW apps on WinXP however, once it's setup properly, you'll wander why you've been shunned the platform - there's SOOOOOO many more excellent Freeware/Shareware plugins which are Windows-only. Why miss out on the party?

Yeah, there are only about 5 vsti's that are free that are decent lol, trust e i've tried thousands and its pure garbage.

I have used windows for 10+ years.... its not a horrible OS... but it leaves alot to be desired. If you dont want to control your OS then i guess its ok.... But im willing to say we changed it so that 'windows is a NOS... non operating system. heh

WINE is not at all heavy. In some cases apps running under WINE in Linux run faster than they do on Windows... The original Half-Life does in some cases, for instance..

I'm quite sure there are wrappers to use Windows VSTs with Linux, so it can be done. Just nobody's done it yet... it'd be great for SynthEdit stuff.
