Ableton + Reason Modulator Losing Setting on Stop: Any Help?

I am using Reason v3 as a rewire slave to Ableton Live v6. I have a Combinator instrument set up in Reason and am setting the modulator to about 70 to get the right sound (set via my midi keyboard); the instrument is then being played from a midi-clip in Live. The problem I am having is that if I Play the clip, then Stop it and Play it again I lose the modulator effect on the intrument. I have set up a clip envelope against the clip in Live that sets the correct modulator value (this is just a straight line envelope), but this doesn't seem to fix the problem. After pressing Stop and then Play again I either have to nudge the modulator wheel on my midi keyboard or "nudge" the envelope line in the clip envelope and suddenly the modulator kicks in again at the right setting.
Note that when doing this the "back to arrangement" button does not illuminate so I am assuming that I am/should be making a permanent change to the clip..?
Note that the modulator wheel as displayed in Reason does not reset to zero on Stop - it looks as though it is still at the correct setting even though the effect is not heard until I nudge something. The clip envelope remains at the correct setting as well.
Does anyone know how Live can/should be configured so that the modulator remains on and at the right setting all of the time?
