Hi there... first post..

All the software midi instruments are running fine, using ableton 6.0.3 but when i use my soundcard (saffire focusrite) to play midi from hardware (nord/waldorf pulse) just drawing in the notes in the grid, the notes appear in the right place visually but they play too early.. ie. if i draw them on the 1,2,3 and 4 they will sound a fraction (even 1/3 of a beat) to early.. i've tried fiddling around with a few settings but i'm not much of a technical know it all... any hints/tips or ideas as to how to rectify this would be great..

many thanks..

you have psychic synths!!!

it's probably more like they're 2/3 of a beat late.

options-preferences-midi
on the port you're using hit the little triangle next to it to open the midi clock settings.

turn on the metronome for your synth and Live, get them playing, listen for the '1' then adjust the midi clock delay until they're in sync.

if your synth doesn't have a midi clock then send it 4 midi notes, 1, 2, 3, 4 with the '1' being a different note than the others. in this case you're dealing with midi clock delay AND audio delay. audio delay is another issue and there's a Live tutorial on that.

1/3 too early judging by your ears, or by the metronome/scrollbar??

Are you using ASIO drivers?
Maybe your audio is just really late, and MIDI is on time?
