I never used to have any issues, and i havent installed any new VSTs or changed my computer set up at all, but now when I go to try to load an mp3 into a clip, my machine takes forever to do it, sometimes, live just shuts down altogether. Wavs still load up just fine. weird. anyone else experience this and if so, whats up with that?

running vista on a 4 ghz HP machine with 250gbs hd.

have a check where the cache folder is set to and then, whatever partition that is examine how full the partition is /how fragmented that partition is.

on windows the cache defaults to C, also on windows C can become full quite quickly as your programs get installed.

I have my cache on a partition called 'cache' which is 50gig and all my apps which like to disk cache have a folder there. That way I know I can clean it without damage and fragmentation to other important data like renders or applications.

if not that, then who knows.

Does your computer use an Nvidia chipset? Specifically for Sata? And do you have quicktime installed? If so, see the bad combination thread posted earlier.....

Umm, doesn't Live use Quicktime to decode MP3's?

Yup, at least it used to in v5, maybe it changed?

It appears Live uses both directshow or quicktime to decode mp3's (for windows). It prefers quicktime if it is installed otherwise it reverts to directshow.
