anybody know the best way to apply beat repeat to just one section of a clip...or what is the easiest way to create buildups/breakdowns in drums...like when the snare doubles then doubles again, etc.

automation

use automation to switch the effect off and on to apply it to one section and automate the different knobs to get building effects.

"device on" is the on/off switch, so you should turn it "off" for all the way except for that little part where you want it "on".

many functions

every function of beat repeat can be controlled with an envelope, either in session or arrange view.
There are two drop down boxes, one to select what you want to control - beat repeat and the one below to select what parameter you want to affect. Device off/on does the same as clicking the little circle on the top left corner of the beat repeat effect. It turns the device off and on.
Because it is a two state thing (off or on, no inbetween) a high value will be on, a low value will be off. Something like volume or filter frequency will have a range of values from low to high but everything is controllable by envelopes.
Whatever you can grab with the mouse and adjust can be automated with envelopes.
Have a play around and if your not getting anywhere follow the tutorials - they are the best source of accurate info.
