Live's "load-instrument-while-you-drag"-feature is a pain

Post by posssu » Sat Sep 22, 2007 1:28 am

It's a pain in the ass when you start to drag some Live-instrument and Live starts loading it while you drag. The cursor doesn't update and you have to wait until it does so that you can be sure Live get's the mouse-release on a correct track.

I don't see any point in loading the instrument while you drag: dragging is an operation that takes less than 1 second.

I'd love to see this feature optional and be able to turn it off, since it just makes things harder. While you wait for the cursor to update and show changes, it takes much more time than the time it would take to drag the instrument and then see it load.

sorry, but I can't figure out what you mean.

I have no problems dragging a live instrument onto a midi track. The loading starts when I release the mouse button to put the instrument on the desired track.

Only when I drag a complete midi track from another project into the current live's browser starts to preload the used plug-ins...

could you describe more detailed what is happening, because I got nearly the same setup...

I also dislike this behavior.

I don't mind that it starts to load, but I mind that it takes so long in some cases for the cursor to change to the rectangle.

The explanation I've received is that it needs to analyze the content so that it knows where it's possible or not to drop it.

But I'm not sure to what extent I buy that expl.

In the case of an instrument preset file, it's headed to a MIDI track only.. easy

in the case of an .alc, it's headed to either a MIDI track or Audio track but not both.

in the case of an .als file, maybe I start to see the problem.
