Looks like you need a Gazillion MBPS connection to run the intro smoothly.

not likely knowing Steinberg - this version is already cheaper than Nuendo 3 was on release. Although they might be forced to drop the price of Cubase 4 a bit, especially as it's dual platform, it'll be killed on Mac otherwise.
Besides, Nuendo is designed as a post production audio/visual/midi suite, Cubase 4 is Logic 8's direct competitor as it does not include all the broadcast formats and tools that Nuendo does. And Nuendo 4, in spite of it's whopping price, does not include the new virtual synths included in Cubase 4 either unless you pay for an upgrade

Looks like they pretty much ripped the MIDI out
So you have to pay extra to get Cubase 4's functionality as an *upgrade* to your Nuendo package:
Nuendo Expansion Kit EUR 299
Professional Notation and printing
MusicXML import and export
Drum Editor for MIDI drum parts
Four additional VST instruments: HALion One, Prologue, Spector and Mystic
Advanced compatibility with Cubase 4 projetcs
IIRC Nuendo 3 had some of these functions. So now they've removed them and want to charge extra?!
They obviously missed the part where Apple halved their prices! And the part when Audition 3 was announced, again at a lower price point. In an increasingly competitive world, it kinda looks to me like they just don't want to play anymore...

really? It misses also quite some functionality from N3 - so for the equivalent of N3 you pay more ...... 2100€ .....
(and as in Cubase surround is still scribbled ..... Nuendo would be the way to go - but for that price .....

)

whats the betting that price drops before christmas

I doubt it, there was an insane thread on the Nuendo Forums a year or so back where users (a lot of them, mainly owners of commercial studios I think) were requesting that Steinberg up the price of Nuendo (which they subsequently did). Seems that some prospective clients didn"t like the fact that Nuendo was relatively cheap compared to a Pro Tools rig for example. and the perception was that would be clients looked down their noses on studios using "cheapo apps". So, lets up the price of Nuendo and problem solved.
Wonder what is going to happen now that Logic has dropped so drastically in price??????
Anyway bought Logic 8 a week ago and it is certainly going to replace my Nuendo rig on PC, once I have got my head around the interface that is. The video engine never worked properly in Nuendo and there is no indication that it will work any better in version 4. Now if only Ableton can get their act together with video in Live 7 I would dump Logic, Nuendo et al..... but I am creating abstract soundtracks for experimental video so I guess very much in the minority as a Live user, but I can still hope.

[snob mode] Logic's cheap consumer rubbish. Get yourself some proper audio software if you want us to take you seriously. Great Scot! What were you thinking! [/snob mode]

Yes, unbelievable that they charge for that expansion pack.
Although Nuendo is doing quite well in pro studios, especially in Europe and (strangely) in Nashville on the country music scene, in the upper echelons of pro studios some people see it as a viable alternative to Pro Tools HD where you can spend a lot more on converters and hardware and have choices of hardware, as opposed to being tied down with Digidesign's proprietary hardware.
Steinberg definately need to consider chopping the price of C4, it's still listed at $879 dollars against the $499 of Logic 8.

Just pay 4 times the price for Logic, then it will be better..
Oh, and extra for Logic Express features.
