how to run ableton from a soundcard with 1 output to mixer?

i have a mbox which only has 1 output, and i saw on a video that it's possible to run it in mono from the left and right output to each mixer channel (but didn't explain how). i suppose if you went from mono 1/4 inch out to stereo rca from both the left and right outputs and panned one channel left and the other right it would work but how?

Just enable the individual outs from Lives prefs ("1" and "2", not just "1&2") and then set the output from a track to either 1 or 2. Don't know the MBOX so you might have to get some sort of splitter cable (stereo-> 2 mono plugs) if it lacks individual outs.
