I have a 49 key keyboard and was wondering how to assign different notes to each key. All I have been able to do so far is to use the impulse preset, but that only assigns 8 keys... Any help?

I have wave files i want to assign to my keyboard.. how do i do it?

put the wav files into the clips (the boxes in 'session view'). hit the word MIDI at the upper right of the screen.

a screen pops up on the left showing you the assignments as you do them (you can delete and adjust them there too) if it's not open, drag it open with your mouse.

click a clip
hit a keyboard key

try this-
in an open range of keys, click ONE clip, hold down a low note on the keyboard, then tap a high note on the keyboard.

hit MIDI again.

forgot to mention, put the clips in separate audio tracks or else they'll cut each other off.

All the same sample or different ones for each key?

Same sample, each key: Insert a midi track/instance of simpler/drop in sample. This can also be done with a clip that contains your sample. You can map the sample to the entire keyboard range. Enter the midi map mode(ctrl-m) and hold first key and last key.

Different sample, each key: I'm not exactly sure, but I imagine one way would be to host 49 Simplers in a rack and filter midi notes to activate each sample depending on which note/key is pressed.

First of all thank you for all the replies. But when I put my wav files into the midi tracks, they change to audio tracks and when I put multiple sounds in the same track they just fill up different clip slots. I have 16 piano notes I want to set to 16 keys on my keyboard, and be able to record them in the same clip slot. This is possible right?

Sounds like you need Sampler, or a sampler I should say. You might be able to do this with Impulse but I don't use that too often.

A track is either MIDI or audio. You can't have both on the same track. Also you can only play one clip at a time on a track.

As an option you can drop each sample into it's own track, 16 notes/audio files would mean 16 different audio tracks. Then do what Tone Def said to assign keyboard notes to the clips.
