I cannot automate all parameters in my vst

hi all,
I have a slight problem that when I try and automate one of the parameters in live the option is not available. Is there a max amount parameters live can only change in one vst?
There appears to be too many parameters in the VST and its seems live can only hand 256? <-- this number is just a guess
Any help appreciated
