anyways, just writing to let you know that I have finally finished a project to control Ableton Live using the new iPod touch!!! I will post pics and more details later as it's late and I have work at 7am, but here's the gist:

basically I modified a PHP script (made by Galen Scorer) that generates OSC signal from an HTML image when clicked on. The OSC signal travels through a UDP pipe setup either through Chuck or natively in the PHP script and into Max. I wrote a Max/MSP patch that takes the signal and generates a MIDI output for each individual button pressed. I set it up as a matrix of buttons on an HTML page hosted on my local webserver (on my Mac) so that it works sort of as a Triggerfinger. I mapped out the MIDI signals to sample clips in ableton.

Basically it works with any device capable of browsing the web (so a computer, PDA, iPod, nintendo DS, etc) as there's nothing running locally on the machine, but rather it's all running through scripts on the server and Max patch.

I will post more details tomorrow with pics and whatnot but here are the files if anyone wants to adapt their own method!

here's the udp script: http://www.djandrewgarcia.com/personal/udp.php

and here's the Max/MSP patch: http://www.djandrewgarcia.com/personal/ipod_touch.pat

so far it's working very interesting, just layering samples and it's more of a proof of concept sort of deal. the Project came about when i found out someone had used the iPhone to trigger Max processes and so on and I thought what a brilliant idea to bring to the ALDJ community!

There's a slight delay as the signal is processed but no problem if you have quantization to 1 bar. Feel free to ask questions and I will get back to this thread when i can! cheers...

edit: here are a couple of pictures for you. one is of my HTML interface on the "Triggerpod" and the other is just of the max patch for those too lazy to get the runtime.

This is way cool. I assume it will work with an iphone and Macbook Pro as well. I'm a little confused though with the page link and patch, but you said you would go into more detail later so I will just wait on the instructions.

Hey,

I'm confused - this looks an awful lot like the standard aka.iphone implementation?

Are the mods in order to get the other 8 buttons?

You talk of running OSC through Chuck - why not simply UDPreceive it in Max itself?

And final comment: Did you see the new version, aka.iphone2? Looks really cool, and really fast, too:

cool stuff - nice to see it used with Live.
