operator is an FM syntesizer, Analog is an analog synth. check the web page on the site for details.

Analog has two filters and either or both of the filters can be formant filters for starters. There are a couple different options for how these are routed. The envelopes are ADSR just like operator but the attack stage is a curve instead of a line.
It also has an extra LFO and a unison mode. And unlike operator (i think) the two oscillators can be synced.
And I'm sure there are other differences too.

Plus you can go to the AAS site and download the demo of Ultra Analog (same synth minus effects)
http://applied-acoustics.com/ultraanalog.htm
It is one of the best sounding VA synths. Great low end

I think you can turn it into a line, with a switch..

Ah, but Mr Deft.... it ISN'T analog. Its virtual analog MODELING. So what he want's to know is not what it says on the dropdown menu, but how it makes sounds... which is all in the routing. Right?

kabuki - I'm just getting up to speed on these but Operator is based around oscillators oscillating oscillators, frequency modulation. whereas Analog starts with two oscillators that pass through a filter(s) and amplitude sections with an LFO to modulate parts of it and noise to throw in the mix. it's a computer, of course it's 'virtual analog'.
look at the routing for Analog and Operator, they're stacked differently.
it's also late and I've only been using this version for 37 hours.

There you go. THAT'S what he needed.
Thanks.
(Hows the Monome going? Thinking about the 256.)

cool it made sense, hope it was all correct
monome is going well, I figured out how to interface max/msp with it. I'm taking a series of 4 max classes and have been learning that stuff, now Live 7b pops up. at this point the in the class I think I can maybe make an mlr app in a few weeks/month. slicers are pretty easy to make in max/msp as it turns out. once all this blows over I hope to make something interesting with max/monome. lots going on. I should get an aluminum faceplate this week and probably make a wood case shortly after. the top plate's pricey for all the holes to drill.

As in, the frequency of one oscillator is modulated (changed) by the waveform of the other oscillator... when the waveform of the oscillator that is doing the modulating is above zero, it increases the frequency of the oscillator that is being modulated... when the oscillator doing the modulating is below the zero point, it decreases the frequency of the oscillator that is being modulated. And of course this is happening at an audio rate, at whatever frequency the second oscillator is running. Of course if the second oscillator (the one doing the modulating) is itself being modulated in the same manner, some very complex stuff can start to happen.
