Contemplating on trading decks for 733mgz G4,monitor etc. What advice could you give me on setup? Thinking of Delta 1010lt, Ableton, Linn Drum machine, already have Electrix Warp Factory, Eq Killer, Mo_Fx, and Filter Queen, wanting to accomplish live deephouse show. Is it possible with this product, is it buggy? What to you would be the ideal setup? Hate to bother, just don't want to make the mistake of losing my decks for nothing. Please reply if you feel you can provide me with some solid info. Spence Mckay

It just wanted to go live, dj's seem to be a dime a dozen these days, Hawtin and Acquaviva are using Final Scratch and such. So maybe I'll keep the decks. What if I use my iMac I have now, 500mhz Dv model, and the Emagic interface? Or should I just use the MOTU 828, see how I like it all and then ditch the decks if I feel I can get more done using Ableton? If I seem idecisive, I am, what do you think I could do to get the best of both worlds?

I just would never ditch my decks....doesnt help that I cant get live to work well enough where I would gig w/ it. Too many little hiccups and audio noise shit coming through. I have a EMI26 too and that doesnt help.

More power to finding a way to be different that just the average plate spinner though.....

It's not buggy - though finding the right audio interface is key. Katmeho - I too am damn disappointed with the 2|6.

In any case, I'm not interested in just mixing songs - I think improvising original tunes is the next step in dj'ing. My personal goal is to be able to do a set about 50% improv and 50% tracks from others.

I definitely agree that the right hardware is key. I use a 500Mhz g4 powerbook and a Motu 828 -- works great, no hiccups ever!!!

True, DJ's are a dime a dozen, but I wouldn't call Richie and John's use of Final Scratch much of a departure from straight up dj-ing. It's still two decks and a mixer. Don't get me wrong -- Richie is still probably my favorite DJ -- but I see his adoption of Final Scratch as more of a convenience (lighter than a crate of vinyl) than any real innovation. If you want a fresh outlook, a new way of looking at things, then get Live. It's like stream of consciousness mixing -- effortless!!!

I think FinalScratch will be as to close to cutting edge as the current crop of pro djs will get. The first time I read about Live, I realized that the possibilities it opened would change the face of dj'ing, but like the acceptance of the modern dj, this will take some time, though less since there already are laptop performers as well as acceptance in places like Germany, where two Live users (Dick Richards, Dennis DeSantis) have recently performed.

I can comment a little on the hardware
side:

the 733 rev B (new, quicksilver case) had
no L3 cache, so it's barely faster at running
the audio stuff than is the iMac500/DV.
The rev A (old G4 case) 733 is said to
be faster, however.

between the 828 and emi2|6, i'd go
with the emi. it's cheaper, small and light,
and seems to work about as well as the 828
for me, on my mac.

So my iMac, MOTU 828, Live should be a nice set up. Add Reason and Recycle and this should be a thing dreams are made of? I might look a little funny with a big ass iMac , atleast it's the Graphite, kinda retro I think, it would appear. Anyone scoring some deephouse sounds using Live and other apps, what other apps work well for MAc, using Live?
