shcok horror the evil one thinks drum rack is good and combined with sidechaining makes the upgrade a little more pleasing. i have not tried the beta just saw the video. i give ableton 8/10 for drum racks and 9.98 for the sidechaining implementation because its like logic and pro tools.

question..do samples have longer decay now if i put them into a drum rack. before, in impulse, all my kick samples had lost a lot of punch somehow. do samples now play back properly in drum racks?

in impulse, set the decay mode to Gate and set the Decay to 10.0 seconds. that should do it.

i have done that before, thanks to your tips Machinate. I have also tried using simpler. But i still tihk there is a loss in strength of kicks and snares.
i also have iDrum, and when I compare how the samples soundin iDrum to Impulse and or simpler, there seems to be a difference.
if i just put the one shot samples in sesion grid, they so0und fine, just like they do in iDrum, and jsut how they should.

not to take this too much off-topic, here's a quick example of some kick sounds. Pretty snappy kick with a longish decay of both bass and treble:
http://covops.dreamhosters.com/dropbox/ ... t_live.wav
Phatmatik Pro
Simpler
Impulse (with decay set to 10s and "gate")
straight, unwarped audio clip.
- not neccesarily in that order. 4 kicks of each.
Which one sounds best? I think they all sound pretty much the same. Any difference I hear may as well be caused by temperature fluxuations in my studio or something.

It was only a matter of time before you started producing tarnce again.
(no, I don't hear a difference either)

The default is to put "Slices" in simplers. Audio is *not* actually sliced destructively, Live just adjusts the start and end point of each Simpler. So you can adjust the Loop point settings, Decay, sustain...any simpler params.

Do any of the new Live 7 drum plugs offer support for control from Vdrums like BFD or Battery. The most basic requirement would to be able to control variable open/closed Hhats I.E Control all the different positions between open and closed via variable CC msgs (Do the drum plugs even come with samples for inbetween open/closed?). If not They are kinda useless for imitating realistic drums!

Its possible thanks to a new feature on the Sampler.
You can select samples with a CC..

interesting, but i guess the sample change only occurs at note on.
or can you setup a load of looped samples and switch them as the note is held?
that would be great.

As far as I understand it, you can even select samples with an LFO.

Seriously, I cannot tell which sounds best, but the third one clearly sounds different, it sounds kind of muffled compared to the others.
