How memory expensive will Live 7 be (in comparison with 6)?

So, how memory expensive will Live 7 be on older machines, like P4s and G4s?

nobody knows, even the geekiest Abe can't answer that. Live 7 is still being written.
I'd guess that 64 bit summing is more memory expensive. two 64 bit signals being added together is twice the bits of two 32 bit signals, unless done twice as fast. maybe on dual core machines there's no hit except for CPU.
dunno...

This is interesting, although it only seems to affect Simpler/Sampler:

Using large sampled instrument libraries can quickly eat valuable computer resources and slow down the creative process. Ableton Live 7 introduces SmartPriming, a new resource-saving sample playback technology allowing users of large sample libraries, such as Ableton's new sampled instruments, to use many instruments in their compositions. Due to Simpler and Sampler's tight integration with Ableton Live, SmartPriming automatically reallocates resources in real time from where they are no longer needed to where they are, without interrupting the user's workflow. Once a sampled instrument is sequenced, Live knows the amount of resources required to play that instrument back, and unloads all unused samples to open resources for the next instrument the composer decides to play. Essentially, SmartPriming is an under-the-hood technology that allows Live users to get the most from their computer's resources and take advantage of the realism and expressiveness provided by professional multisampled instruments.

memory usage seems to be about the same.
my G4 w/768 chuggs along fine.
