help me regarding usb midi cable and ableton settings

hey...i have usb MIDI cable by turtle beach...i plugeed it with keyborad and ableton detect it...but i dont reaally have any idead regarding control surface..what type of setting i requried..for control surface..becoz...no midi is record via my keyborad although its connected..help..help.help...and i have usb sound card as well...so help me
