edit.
I am disappointed by their truculence. Very rude.

Great video. Reminds me of the 'MTV stooge' interview from that Smashing Pumpkins DVD (can't find a clip). Why does an artist have to be all like OH, my GOD for interviews? They obviously aren't up for pretending to be in great spirits. Maybe a better tack would've been to ask them why they look so sullen instead of sticking to the script.
The interviewer also starts off with what could be interpreted as a question that's quite judgemental of their music, or at least pigeon-holing. I don't think it's a far stretch that they'd have been put out of line by that straight off, but they probably weren't in the best form to begin with.
I was totally on the side of the band for the lyrics question towards the end - the subtext of the q. is basically "so when are you going to sing some real lyrics?". I can't say I'd do a much better job at interviewing them but they aren't every band so you can't just expect to ask the stock questions and get some snappy sound bytes to put on your ads in return.

^ I agree with your critique of the interview. I just think it's funny that they're doing an interview and no one says anything...very strange. If it was me, I'd get into it with the interviewer and question why lyrics need to be in a recognizable language at all, and why music needs to sound like other types of bands...etc.
Although I do think that they could be a little warmer given that an audience is tuning in to hear them...

Yeah in fairness it's not everyone that gets a forum like NPR for their music/message - you've only got to look at Trey Parker/Matt Stone for an example of guys who take full advantage of the soap box they've got. For these guys (Sigur Ros) though the music really speaks for itself - I wonder if they kind of intentionally play themselves down to underline this? Or they're just artsy wankers...

They were inteviewed here on the Culture Show a week or so back and came across as really nice people. There was no hint of Diva at all, so it makes me wonder what must have happened. Everyone is entitled to their off days I reckon.

The questions were lame, and more than half of them were yes/no answers. I'm glad they didn't make up a lot of fake pretentious bullshit like a lot of bands do.

Reminds me of the Mr. Show skit where the band Smoosh is interviewd, and all one guy can say is "dunno" and the other guys just says sarcastic shit to everything. Dammit, cant find it on youtube,.,

I saw the film here in NY and the band played a few songs before hand. It was a very beautiful piece. These guys are not diva's at all, that was a serious off day for them.
