I am currently in the market to buy a new laptop for djing/producing.
I need to know if a mac book is adequate to run live for this purpose or i need to spend big and buy a mac book pro
I run it now on a pent 4 3ghz comp... and it lags up massively when you have a few layer... even to the point of audio distortion and white screen.. .and you cant stop it from playing.
So.. will 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 gig ram be enough for what i want or do i HAVE to buy a pro.

I'm happily running along with my Macbook 2.16GHz.
I actually didn't want the "Pro" model because of the size of it. It's small for a 15.4" laptop, but I'm a big fan of tiny laptops.
As for power, as long as you are running Live 6 you'll notice a goofy increase in power as compared to a 3GHz P4. If you're on Live 5, it would be a good idea to upgrade to get better use of both cores.
One thing to think about, however, is that the "Pro" models are now running the next generation CPU, @ a higher bus speed (800MHz as opposed to 667MHz on the Macbook). They also hold more memory (4GB max) which might be important if you're using lots of samples, and have more IO controllers (Express slot, FW800).
They also have a higher screen resolution.
They'll also perform marginally better, though not earthshaking.
If that's worth the $900 base price difference and you have the case... go for it.
But I like my Macbook.
Take care,

Unfortunately they have been imminent for a long time, so this could mean MWSF - which isn't that close really. In addition you would the have the problem of Rev1 hardware, which is not always the best experience.
If you want or need one now, buy it - I have a MBP and it is great. If you can wait, wait. If you have all the patience in the world, wait 2 months at least after the initial deliveries of a fresh product.

I have a MacBook and love it--even though 2 months after I bought mine they lowered the price by about $400 (

). I considered the MBPro but didn't see the jump in price (and size) justified by the additional features. I use an external powered Firewire drive for most of my samples (except the EIC Grand Piano which I can't live without) and have never had any issues using Live, Logic Studio, Amplitube or Guitar Rig for that matter.
