Has anyone else had this problem? My CPU seems fine and I'm not running that crazy of stuff for it to crash so easily. Help! Any ideas why this is happening?

are you using third party plugs ins ? or just Live 6 ?

Are you using an audio interface, or the Mac's built-in audio?

I'm using just live 6. A friend mentioned I need to update to a later version of Live because I have the mac book using the intel chip. I will try that now.

I don't think that is your problem. All versions of Live 6 are Universal Binary (Intel compatible).

Can you please describe exactly what your set contains, audio tracks/instruments/plugins etc.

Are the crashes totally random? Can you descride what you are doing when Live crashes.

posting your crashlog would likely be helpful in helping us diagnose this too

you should be able to find it in your user home folder > Library > Logs > CrashReporter > Live_(DATE)_(COMPUTER-NAME).crash. on tiger, the file will take the form Live.crash.log. it is a plain text file so you should be able to post the text in your response, attach it or send it directly to ableton.

All I am running when it crashes is an mp3 from I tunes with an audio filter along with midi beats I created with impulse. I've definitely put a lot of effects on each clip but I feel like it should be something easy for the program to handle. Then I'm just playing around between clips and scenes and it simply just shuts down. It remembers everything up to the point it crashes which is cool but still.... I need this to operate in a live situation. Thank you guys so much for helping me diagnose this.

a friend of mine had similar problems, and we realize that his Live6 was working under rosetta !!!
So just do a Get Info on live app to see if the Option "open under Rosetta " is unchecked.

Cant find anything about Rosetta. How do I find that Live app option you mentioned? Where is it located? Thanks man.

if you don't have an intel-based mac, there won't be any mention of rosetta on your system. otherwise, in the finder, select the Live application, get info (command-a) and below the basic file info, there will be a checkbox which reads Open using Rosetta make sure it is not enabled.

posting a crashlog would still be helpful

EDIT: of course you have an intel-based mac, as mentioned in the subject - opps.

That would be "Command-I" for "get info".

"Command-A" is "select all"

Only time I have every had Live crash its been due to a bung VST..... could try removing your VSTs and AUs from their directories and copying em back one at a time

I seem to be having the same problem.
I am running Live 6.0.10 (I believe it's a Lite version) on Leopard and my comp is relatively brand new intel-based MacBook Pro.
When I start up Live, "Initializing inputs and outputs..." shows up on the bottom & then shows the horrid "This application.. unexpectedly quit." error message. I tried relaunching numerous times & no luck.
I moved all my third party AU's & VST's to another folder & this actually launched Live once but everything was screwy & half my data on a saved set was missing, really odd stuff. So I relaunched it & it didn't open this time.

Any suggestions??

the rosetta checkbox is still present in leopard, at the bottom of the General group (which is the first listed in the info window)

as i posted above, a crashlog might help us diagnose the problem even faster!
