just eondering what the concensus is for optimal Live performance...
what windows operating system seems to be the best?

Hey dere fellow Canuck. Wheres aboots ya from, eh?
I am a mac user who asked the same question a few months ago, looking to move to PC. The consensus seems to be Windows XP. You only need XP pro if you are networking. No matter what you choose, stay away from Windows ME, it's a horrible monstrosity.

Anyone used Live with Windows 2000? I might end up with a Windows 2000 laptop soon.

If I recall correctly, Mbazzy rocks it on 2000.

I just bought a P4 2.8 asnus MB, 1 gig ram and 80 gig HD, XP pro, for about 650E. Works great.Boots up in about 5 secs.. Live is same as on Mac, just allot more power & tracks per dollar..Still love my Mac and prefer Mac OSX over XP, but I ain't rich enough for a G5..(now that is a beast!) Mac demo song I guess 18% on a g4 1000 and new PC 7%.

XP home, most definitely. XP pro not necesasary
2000 is next best but the computers in my studio at work have 2000 on them and find them not as stable as my machines at home, and then XP home seems to be more stable than Pro as I have both.

thank you all for the replies, that reinforced the info i allready had.
the "Live" community around here agrees with all the comments i have recieved, now i can say "I know." . Tthe K-W region of ontario is right on the ball.

If you are getting a laptop that is runnign Win2K its like $99 to upgrade to WinXP. What you get with WinXP is not a lot in terms of audio subsystem - Windows packs that up in an add-on, DirectX 9b. What you DO get is much better plug-and-play. So when you plug in your M-Audio Firewire410 or your Evolution UC-33 or your ... it works.
