Hello Everyone,
I am planning on doing a live 1 hour set using LIVE as my main seq. From playing around with it semi -extensively I have noticed that I can choke it relatively quickly when using plugs on tracks. I am running a G4 700 with 800 sompin' megs o ram. My laptop which will be my live rig (G4Ti 733 w/500 sompin megs o ram).
It's looking like I will have to pre-bounce any and all effects that I don't need to be played live. But anyway, my questions are these, maybe you guys/gals can help me out with this.

#1- I was hoping there was a way to where I can be playing the outro of one song, while I loaded up the next track from another save. I obviously have to stop and load everysong if I plan on doing this right? Either that or I have two laptops that I can bounce back and forth on. Too expensive.
Or I can just try to load in ALL loops into one big ass session.

#2- Do you generally always start tagging the smaller loops as RAM based? I haven't tried this yet, but I am assuming that it will clear up some of the CPU clogging that I have experienced.

#3- Has anyone tried to accomplish my 1st question effectively? Have you played a 1 hour set with just using the loops within one session? As I mentioned above, if I bounce down all effects, this could be achievable.

#1 - I've seen people running loads of songs from the same Live session saved document.

One good way to handle it is to use the session view an keep tracks for certain instruments - like for example track one for "bass", track two for "full drum loops", track three for "percussion loops", track four for "pads", track five for "vocals or lead instrumental lines" ect.

Then you make use of the scenes (horizontal) for songs. If you need to jump beteween different parts of one song (vers, chorus, bridge...) you might use many scenes for that song - but the point is to leave an empty scene to mark out different songs.

By this set-up you are able to spin in a hihat or whatever from the next song during the outro of the first song. You can just fade instruments belonging to different songs into eachother while carefully adjusting tempo for the song to come.

i've done gig's all in one file, and spread out over several. each has it advantages and disadvantages. if you don't have a lot of live effects running, or some crazy keyboard/midi mappings, then there's no reason why you should use multiple files. however if you have a ton of fx, or you've mapped out your whole keyboard for one crazy drum solo or something, you might want to look into spreading your set out some. as far as i know, you can't open multiple instances of live for smooth song transitions.
here's some love.

tips i've found for all-in-one style:
- like mr. boysen mentioned, naming your tracks appropriately and filing your like clips together can help. i've also found that filing clips that share similar fx between songs in the same track can cut down on the between song maintenance. so if you have a chorus on the bass on one song and chorus on the percusssion on the next, put all those clips on the same track.
- set all your levels in the clip parameters and not in the mixer. keep the mixer faders set at default. this way, you don't need to worry about what track levels need to be changed on what song. you can then make minor changes to compensate the variances in different pa's, but you always know where the faders should be.
- print as many fx as you can. any effect that you won't be controlling, and that doesn't have a random factor (like anything that changes a sound over a lengthy period) should be printed. it saves cpu cycles and cuts down on stuff you need to worry about.
- develop smooth transitions between songs. which is obviously the whole reason you'd put everything into one file.

tips for multiple file sets:
- try to map your midi/keyboard stuff in a similar fashion between songs, or be damn shure you can remember 6-10 sets worth of different controller settings.
- have an "arc" ready (i think this term was coined by someone on the creativesynth site). some noise for people to listen to while you're loading up your next file. it may only take ten seconds to load up a new set file, but that's an eternity of dead air on stage. some droney mp3's and itunes comes in handy for this. or some external gear. feedback networks are handy too. make sure you have plenty of arc time in case something goes wrong opening the new file.
- keep it down to as few files as possible. try to double up your songs if you can. keep the tunes flowing.

I don´t´know if it works on your computer
but you can open to apps and use live as a turntable
you might need a midislider but if you are really go you can accutally handle it wíthout that.

make some filler tracks or sound collages
tap sync and fade something in from your ipod, or cdplayer
load a new live set and tap it into sync with the ipod/cd and fade the computer back in (and nudge the tempo up or down as needed)
