Can anyone recommend Sampler over Kontakt. Ive got K2 but dont realy enjoy using it. The clips i've seen of Sampler make it look alot more friendly than Kontakt for messing with samples.

I am not a Sampler user, but why don't you try the demo? It's built into Live. Just go to Option>Procucts and switch Sampler to Run In Demo Mode or whatever.

I have both, and I like Sampler for it's simplicity and low cpu drain.
Kontakt definately has a few more features that I use for certain things.
But I can definately say that I use both.
just in differnt ways.

i say kontakt is the better of the two, especially if you already own it. why don't you learn the cool tool you already have at your finger tips instead of trying to find an easy route; which i am sure sampler will not bring. if i were you, instead of investing 200 on sampler, i would dish out 45 on the K2 tutorial DVD. it is actually an easy sampler to work with. after that if you can't "mess with samples" in K2. then either buy sampler or just give up on sampling. i have not noticed any major CPU strain from K2 while using it.

Funny, I like sampler for it's simplicity and layout, but I like kontakt2 for its lower cpu drain (for complex instruments).
Sampler of course is going to be more stable if you're using a whole bunch of 'em, and can be a good drum module for racks and such. It's only draining on cpu when the polyphony goes up, so using a million samplers each playing one note, will similar to playing one with millions of notes played. Kontakt not so. There you want less instances, but can push the polyphony more.

Save the money on the Kontakt dvd tutorial and put it into getting Kontakt 3 with its zone envelopes. Complex modulation of individual samples.
K3 also comes with some pretty useful video tutorials builr right into the Help menu.

would be nice is sampler would have many outputs so some sounds could go to other channels and from there to other effects too. that way polyphony could be saved

I'll tell you how good Kontakt 2 is, Amanita if you PM me your address, I'll send you my tutorial DVD. Very helpful, it will get you trucking really well.
The question is: Should we upgrade to K3?

I have both. Kontakt is way better if you have the time to learn how to use it. Very different work flow from other VST's but once you get a grasp on it, than it's an amzing tool. I don't really see how sampler can even compare. Also, the amount of presets and samples are amazing, 3 0r 4 DVD's, took hours to install. Depending on you budget, you can do a lot of cool things with sampler, but I would get kontakt if I could.

Thanks, I was thinking that the library seems completely worth the upgrade. Seems pretty good value for €129 and I could do with some new sounds.

Kontakt is better. The only downside is that using multiple outputs costs you two channels in Live. One for midi and one for audio. Live's bad i guess.

?
It's the same with any host if you're using a plugin as a multitimbral instrument with multiple outputs...

Not so anymore in Live 7, thanks to the external instrument device.

Only one track needed now.
