hi all..

i have a question regarding my XP partition, and would really appreciate some help with it, as im running into Space trouble alot

i have a 15GB partition for Win XP, and it seems to be hitting the maximum quite often. Probably due to temporary video files, and scratch disk etc ( i do the odd bit of graphc work).

i was wondering if there is any way to allocate some more space to the OS disk, without have to format the disk or anything? i have a load of space on the same disk/other partition.

as i said.. any help is much appreciated

hello. try partition magic pro. that should work. make a backup first though...

i think with knoppix, you can do it as well but ive never done it. knoppix is free of charge

or try changing your preferences so the scratch disks use a different drive, so the C drive doesn't fill up?

ye ive tried that alright. but i would still like some more headroom, as loads of programs seem to use little folders ont he system drive.. its hard to keep up with them all!

There's a live disk of GParted as well (a small Linux distro) - that'll do partitioning. http://gparted-livecd.tuxfamily.org/

I would second using a live cd with GParted on it. Just be careful... :0

if youre a little inexperienced with partitions, then

BACK EVERYTHING UP FIRST!

its not hard to end up in an unbootable situation. the Gparted live disk or the knoppix disc both work very well.

what kills me is the shared documents folder...

anyway I think I've learned my lesson on partitions at this point. they're bullshit

My first experiences with partition magic were problematic and made me very cautious

but recently I've been using it willy nilly and have had good luck (knock wood)
