hi just got a cheap uc33e
can anyone tell me how they are using the keypads
for scene control and launch buttons etc
cant seem to figure this one out

you have to program the keypad so that it is map to midi notes... The howTo for this is explain in the UC33 manual...

Uhhhhhm, ok.

yeah, i play a lot of gigs with live, and since people always complain that is less interesting than seeing a band play, i set my controller up to simulate stage banter:

i assign the pads to launch clips with little bits of speech like "hey, how y'all doin tonight? havin a good time yet? don't forget to tip your bartender." or for some crouds "hey shut the f*ck up, i'm trying to entertain you" or maybe "stop stroking your beard you ironic williamsburg hipster a$$hole!" Y'know, the kind of stuff that really endears the crowd to you. The last one works really well for me, since i am a beard stroking williamsburg hipster.

pretty creative way to use the uc33 pads. But you probably already thought of that, didn't you, you super-genius you.

or maybe you would like to assign them to something like the current scene up, down, and launch buttons. or something else. i don't really know what you would want to do with em.

i just wanted to hear from anyone who actually is usinga uc33e.

maybe i should be more specific
i have 2 midi controllers connected to a g4 laptop
an oxygen 8 set to midi channel 2
an uc-33e set to midi channel 1
one of the many problems i am having is that they seem to be transmiting similar midi controls and overiding each other
i am sure its something v simple i have done or not done but i cant see it

ok, now we're getting somewhere.

if your evolution is sending on one, and your uc33 on 2, there should be no problem as live can tell the difference between two of the same exact kind of messages (cc or note) if they are on different channels.

you might run into problems if you are trying to use both of them via usb.

prolly best to use one as the midi interface and run the midi out of the other into it.

how exactly do you have your stuff set up?

ahh yes i am using them both via usb
( i was wondering though how much juice is running from my PB as
there are now 3 external devices being powered by it)
i'll try swapping one to midi and see if that fixes it thanks

I think i just misunderstood what you were saying. It was my impression that you were telling the person who first answered your post that they're answer was stupid. I'm sorry for jumping on you like that.

It should be no problem to have them both set to different midi channels. Check to make sure that all of your knobs/controllers are set to the same channel as well. I know on some controllers, you could have your keybed set to channel 1, and your knobs to channel 2, or some other way.

Essentially it sounds like you've got overlapping cc#'s or notes, I'd check both of your manuals to see how to verify what each knob is set to...

Worst case... you could set the oxygen to cc#'s 1-8 for your knobs, and set the uc33e to cc#'s 9-41 or something similar... then they could share the same midi channel.

If you have a UC-33e, then you can program it using Enigma. It is a free download from Evolution's website.

you have to change the launch mode from the default in order to do it right.

I've been finding I'm using mine to nowhere near it's potential - usually it just sits there until I want to start recording automation at which point I just hit the midi button in Live then assign the knobs - ususally to parameters of an effect (like feedback, dry/wet of delay etc) in some kind of coherent way that looks easily like it does on the screen so I can get a grip on it then that's it

I'm sure I could do alot more with it but I just find I never need to, it's much quicker and more useful learning keyboard shortcuts and using the UC33 for knob twiddling

In retrospect I think I may have been better with one of those more DJ ones with the crossfader

I dont know if anybody brought this up yet, but uc33 users can upgrade their unit to a uc33e.
Just a mainboard change that costs 25£ and a screwdriver.
The advantage to this is that you can now use "control mute" and program it with enigma instead of manually.

Enigma should give you any easy overview on your presets.
You can have as much different set-up as you like wich you can transfer through usb and store and edit on the computer.
This should help with conflicting messages.
