mixer send -> ableton live -> mixer line in -> monitor out

Hi, I'm new to live and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out this newb issue I'm having.
Here's the rundown of my setup:
Going from my DJM500 send to my Maudio Delta44 3/4 inputs, then from my sound card I'm going out mono from output3 back to line in on channel 1.
My main output from the mixer goes to inputs 1/2 and then outputs 1/2 to my monitors.
In ableton, I set audio track 1's input to channels 3/4 and set the output to master. I set the master out to ouput 3.
On my mixer I set the effect channel to 3 and hit the magic effects button to send. I then play out from channel 1 and I get audio, but I don't get any output with effects when playing anything from my turntable assigned to channel 3 on my mixer. The whole point of this is for me to be able to use effects via live during DJ sets. I'm really new to live so maybe I'm just not enabling something to monitor the input from audio 1? Thanks!!
