Ableton not suitable for education or networks?

Hi Ab Fans,

I recently bought 10 midi controller keyboards and Live 6.010 was included
I am having problems after install.

The computers are for music education so I'm running the program over a network, and cannot change them to standalone computers

The main problem is that everytime a user logs on and starts Ableton, Ableton tries to re-create the library files that it creates when you first use the program.

I have tried copying start up data to all users in administration but ableton still tries to create the files everytime you load the program, I have also tried in ableton preferences pointing the library files path and temp folders to a seperate partition, but ableton still tries to create the files

have you any advice/methods I could try to get round this problem
Thanks

Hi,

You should contact [email protected], directly, to get some help. You should be able to use either a shared Library, or install an individual Library on each client. They'll help you sort it out.

We have the same problem where I work. If you got a solution - I'd be interested to hear it. It'd be nice to not have our server killed by 100 copies of the same sample library :)

Hi,

If you have a "shared folder" that every computer can use, why not putting one Library in that folder, and setting the path to that Library in all of the Live installations?

That makes sense. So when the computer comes up asking for a Library location, just direct them to that folder and it'll realise the samples are already there?

Hi,

Yes, or, as Live would install a default Library when started for the first time, after installing Live, go to the Preferences, File/Folder tab, and set the path of the Library to the shared Library. Then delete the default Library.
