this is pretty fucking hillarious.
It's what I used to do before I got old.
check out the full body knob turns and the pointing.

Awesome stuff! :D

Was most of your gear set up pointing away from the audience? It looked like it!

I'll see your oh face and raise you a pogoing with fist pumping...

yeah, gear away from audience.
Mainly because all those flashing lights on the desk just say ... look 24 channels of beaty goodness.

it's amazing how few other acts copied that. It works great because you can have the controllers pointing sort of diagonally forwards and to the wings. The audience can still see your faces in a sort of 3/4 view, which is more than enough ;)

It means the audience see more than just a bobbing head, they get an arse too. Plus, the geeks get to see all the knobs and lights.
Also I used to do a few sections of wandering out to the front of the stage, which is a lot easier to do on the spur of the moment when the C shape of the gear is open at the front.

If that makes sense.

What was the guitar player's purpose? I didn't hear any guitar.

heh, yeah
In that song he didn't really do that much, a lot of that stuff from the live gigs he had his own backline that was stupidly loud.
That mainly meant that the FOH engineers never routed him through the desk (wisely). Most of the time his output doesn't sound like guitar anyway more like a man playing strangled out of tune feedback through an MS20. In the bits when he didn't play actual guitar he played vocal samples from films and suchlike. through an ms20 into a guitar amp(!)
It was tough for him, me and the other guy had plenty to do, but he had certain songs where not a lot was required. We used to say to him if you get bored, just go and skin up.
