Audio drops out when switching btwn audio & midi tracks

When I have been recording using the mic for a while into audio tracks, and then want to play around with say, drums using Impulse for example, into midi tracks, there is no audio. I always have to close out of Ableton and then re-enter for it to work. I do the same things I always do (arm the track, etc) and it always works perfectly once I go back in, but why must I do this every time?

Is there some kind of default setting I'm inadvertently changing when I switch between the two recording formats that resets itself only when I exit/re-enter?

Does this only apply to Impulse or also to Simpler?

It applies to both. I find there'll be no volume on either until I close out of Ableton and re-enter. Then it'll all be fine.

So you say you no audio is coming out of the Impulse or Simpler. Does this happen only if you play the sound by computer keyboard or also if you play a recorded MIDI clip?

It can play a recorded midi track ok. It just won't make any sound when I use either the midi keyboard or PC keyboard to play into a new track (and the track is armed, I didn't forget that bit). Very odd.

Are any notes recorded and if which ones? Does Impulse's meter work?
