Yes it is decent but if they only gave it some character then it would be truly cooking al the fires. I find it to transparent for most of my needs and I would imagine that most electronic music creators would feel the same because transparency is rarely an area they want or if we they theres zilllions of plugins for that.
If they gave it a mode like compadre which is also a side chain comp and full of character then we would really be cooking the fires. Try compadre and you will see what I mean

I do my work on os x, so no compradre for me.
I do admit that abes comp is transparent.. but you're walking a fine line there. Too much character you would alienate people who use live for anything but trance, or dnb, etc... There are plenty of ways to get character, sound design is a good start.
Think more of the way you make your sounds on a synth. put more thought into creating you're parts. you wont need the extra character from a comp. LIve's new comp, is a very hard hitting pumper. its really cool

It's all a matter of personal preferences, but it has to be said that the new Live compressor is probably as good as any DAW compressor that comes in the box as I've heard. Vintage Channel in Sonar is good, as are the samplitude compressors but the Live offering is right up there, it's better than the compressors in Logic 7 (not heard the 8 one) and Cubase.
But yes, there is a need for different types of compressor to do certain tasks and although Live's compressor covers a lot of ground, that doesn't mean other compressors should be deleted off the harddrive.
Transparency is a good thing in my book. But there are times when bite and colouration can be desirable.
The main thing is ... well done Ableton for significantly improving the compressor plugin.

Compressor II (or mode II now) is quite transparent, but I always liked compressor I for it's character. Mode I is still different, and for heavy effect style compression, I still love it.
