you'd almost expect them to implement overdubbing of CCs in session mode by now, wouldn't you?

no, you wouldn't the whole point of the program is based on a radically different approach...
I'd expect that if ableton was around in 10 years, they will just solve their midi troubles by saying " fuck that " and developing an entire different system.
