Automation Envelopes

Hey,
Just started writing something in Live 7 and:
Has anyone noticed that when you record automation into the arrangement view via a midi controller Live squares off and removes all the hundreds of break points that make up the automation!! Leaving you just break points at the start and end of each slope. Hope that makes sense.

I think this a major bug.. can anyone else confirm it?
Try automating something simple like a filter on a single audio track then after recording is finished watch the automation almost quantise!! I'm using an external midi controller assigned to the filters cut-off frequency.
?

there is definitely a problem here. touch automation doesn't seem to work at all in the latest version.

Are you sure the automation isn't being quantised? I havn't tried this yet in 7.0.1 but in 6 it records whatever you do with lots of detail.

Yep very sure.. As far as I know there is only one input quantise function: edit: record quantise. and this is turned off.

Hey all,
Could someone please confirm that they have this same problem
in Live 7?
I've not heard back form Ableton and just want to be reassured
its a bug.
much appreciated

i can confirm that it quantises / smooths the automation, which im pretty sure it didnt do before.
from a few tests though i think the smoothing is ok.
BUT (as i and many others have said many times) it would be nice to have an option to turn it on or off and to also apply it as a process to a selection with an optional strength setting

thanks for that.
and your right, it never did it in live 6.. its something I use regularly so
i'm a little pissed that such an obvious bug made it into 7.
I've also tested it in depth and once it 'quantises' the automation
the part sounds completely different.

I agree with the option to turn it on or off. Also I've gotta say that I'd really like to see vector editing so that perhaps you could record cc's into live and it would automatically convert the recording into (say 3) different qualities - 'untouched', 'moderate', 'refined' - then it would be easy to pull a handle (like you do in adobe illustrator) and adjust the curve - less mess!

I dont have that problem.
However, i've read on another thread that you can hack a .cfg file (preferences.cfg?) and write a line with midithinnig=0 i think. Though some people said it worked and some said it didn't...
Hope it helps.
