apologies if this is a stupid question. I've searched the forums and read the help on this topic but I'm still a bit confused. what i'm trying to do is backup all the elements of a project (all samples used either directly or as samples in impulse or drum rack, any instument settings that i have saved, the arrangement, etc.) copy this folder to another computer, load up the project and it should sound exactly the same on both computers (even though they will have different libraries). I've tried 'collect all and save' but it doesnt seem to do anything. ie-all the samples in the project are still in various subdirectories of my library? Is there an easy way to do this?

the most important thing is, that you don't save your project inside your ableton-library.

when you have a new set, save it for example on your desktop (important: outside of your ableton-library!). then, hit collect all & save. ableton will create an ableton-project with all your samples etc.

this project you can easy move to another computer, esp. when you work with an external usb or firewire hd.

the new library-system is a bit confused in the beginning, but it's one of the new feature i very like in ableton 6.
