Ext. recording problem in L7

Can't be arsed to search/read the forum thoroughly, so sorry if this has been brought up before.
Windows XP Pro, Live 7, ASIO drivers: activating external audio input in a track results in noise after a minute or so. Only goes away after messing with the hardware input configuratons, after which it comes back again, etc.
Anyone else?
