How do you rip a cd and leave no gaps?

Ive done a search for this but cannot find anything.

Does anyone know if its possible to rip a mix cd I have into one continous track? When I burn it with media player or itunes it rips it as 30 seperate tracks. This is fine for playing in winamp but when I come to play it on my mp3 player there is a small silent gap in between each track.

Any help much appreciated.

I know my old mp3 player put in a gap automatically. My iPod Nano doesn't. Maybe a hardware or preferences thing. Not really about the ripping.

as far as i know its part of the mp3 format to add a bit of silence at the top and tail. newer versions of itunes and some mp3 players have a 'gapless' play mode that gets around this.

use iTunes, select all of the tracks you wish to merge on a cd, then use "Join CD Tracks" under the Advanced menu, then rip the cd. It will rip as one track.

using CD Architect by Sony you can either crossfade audio between tracks or set the silence value to 0 seconds instead of the red book CD standard of 2 seconds.

great tip on the itunes thing, however as far as i know, if you want to retain the track markers and still get true gapless playback, the only way is to use the red book spec, but its pricey.

Nero also has a "no pause between tracks" option

Yep - Nero will do it for you.

I've done DJ Mixes mixing down the master track and splitting it at the appropriate places and then using the 'no gaps' feature in Nero.

Bit of a PITA but cheap :D

Check Wavelap essential - not too expensive and may have the facility.

wavelab essential does have this feature.

or get Soundforge (PC), as well as having a kick ass audio editing and mastering tool, you get CD Architect bundled with it and they both interact well with each other. You can find version 8 of soundforge for sale or blowout at a lot of places since 9 was recently released.

Thanks for all the tips, I'd always thought it was impossible with Nero :)

This place is truly the fountain of all knowledge.

related tip:

if you want the files gapless in the arranger in Live:

place files in one single track in session, starting with first file in top row.
set arranger grid to none
select files in session. move them to track in arranger

--> will line up one after another with no gap.

This is what I was going to suggest. I've done this before and it works perfect.
