a captcha in the registration form and some mods with just a Not Work Safe rule should be more than enough.

if it can be done in the least obtrusive way possible that'd be great... a captcha sounds like a good idea.

normally i'd just say "dont click on the message" and ignore it but as we're starting to see now, more of these are being posted and with more people inevitably clicking the links within them we'll see our forum overrun with them in no time.

we need to have this nipped in the bud right now ableton

that's a problem.

what age are you talking? I couldn't imagine growing up with the internet and the messed up adults like myself that are on it. kids today have to grow up fast. I doubt there's much on here that a high school kid hasn't seen and knows to avoid.

honestly, I couldn't imagine a few angry parents posting/writing to Ableton about the open nature of the forum. good for Ableton for being so loose and care free but with that comes responsibility.

i teach anyone from ages 15 to 65 so obviously i dont really have to worry about anyone over 18 but even many over 18's have their courses and software paid for by mum and dad...just makes me uneasy.

and yes you're right, most of them have probably seen more than you or i but i'd hate to be cornered by an angry parent who's pissed at me for pointing their little johnny into the direction of the ableton forum and it's porn links

forgetting that though, it's only a matter of time until these posts get to a point where they could overrun the forum, they seem to be steadily increasing now so i assume ableton will have no option to do something about it sooner or later anyway

cool that you're teaching this stuff, it'd be fun to see a n00b's face when they start launching scenes.

AND a swear filter with the worst words would be great as well
You shouldnt be able to use F words especially in titles.

the idea is for children on the board .. i did say especially on the titles.. Go look at the recent posts there is someone going around doing titles like F... (and then fill in the name of whatever) it is almost like someone is spaming the board and it is a waste of post space when people do junk like that. I can understand when someone does a single post and swears in the middle of it but hey whats with 10 new posts by one person and every one of them satsrt with F... whatever. I do think the teacher has a point that there are kids he wants to use abletons forums for answers and frankly i dont see this on other boards that support audo like bigbluelounge, the cubase forums or cakewalk's so why do we have it here.

i think swear words is a bit much, but i'm sitting in the living room right now with my 2 kids. they can't make out shit or bitch from across the room. my 8 year old son would notice some booty pretty quickly.

If you cant say it in public then it shouldnt be on a publically open board should it ? I mean whats the difference ?
well actually there is a difference we all change our speak depending on who is listening but on boards we have no idea who is reading the posts if it is open.. thats the way i look at it anyway.. it's not a private but a public place and people of all ages etc will have access to read whatever is written

i think you'll find that a very large percentage of the ableton community would be opposed to moderation of language within posts...links to incest would be another matter

I'm not bothered about the swearing personally but I think it's a small sacrifice to make to get rid of the spam and there's probably a fair chance a porn filter would pick it up

and to be honest it looks just as shit having the 'cheap meds' threads - it just makes it look like Ableton cant be arsed installing a spam filter

actually thinking about it the spam prevention technology probably wouldnt affect swearing because wont it just make it harder for bots to register etc?

dunno - but it would be nice to get some kind of comment from them

i think the "no moderation" policy of this forum is great.

it is very easy to avoid the pharmmy/porm spam...

BUT

that stuff never used to make it in here, and it is annoying and becoming a problem.
