no sound in rendered video

been trying to render some video, but I've been having problems with the sound.
Simple video loop with some sound. Mixed with an audio loop. Just 2 tracks in the arrangement. Cut up and edited a bit.
Choose the part I want to render using the loop braces. Check the master volume is were it should be.
Render to disc.
In the end I get a wave file with the sound and video file with the video.
Is this the way it should be??? I would like to have the sound embedded in the video.
In the render to disc video options I have checked the 'audio' checkbox, so shouldn't the video also have sound???
Anybody have a similar experience??
