Remote SL Automap not working in 7?

I see the Live Automap doesn't work in 7. Does anyone have a fix for this?
I'm a bit confused by this Automapping so i'm not 100% confident about making up my own templates yet until I understand a bit more.
I've read the manuals (although was pretty confused) so I'm still in the dark about several things.
The only 2 things I have had working are the SL automapping the right hand side faders etc to Live and then being able to control plugins with the left hand side when I select them. (Only in Live 6 though!)
So basically I can't do anything with it in 7 at the moment as I can't work out how to Automap anything or even what mode to use to map things manually.
That's one issue, but another is when you select one of the Automap instrument templates on the SL what are you then supposed to do? I have the Automapped relevent instrument on a channel but nothing is happening and there is no control.
Also, all the Automapped plugins have the Automap bar at the bottom but I can't find any documentation to say what the buttons do or how to use it.
Any help?

Have you seen the latest kit (4.1) that came out yesterday on the novationmusic site?

it works, don't spread ignorance. I went over it pretty thoroughly during the beta test.
you don't select the plug-in specific templates on the SL, one of the Live specific templates.
if it works in 6 then the SL is set up right, do you have the control surface options set in the preferences?
do you get the blue hand on the VST window at the bottom of Live?
whatever you did in 6 to get it working, do the same in 7.
patience, this is how you learn. there are also tons of SL threads, some are stickied in the Tips n Tricks sticky, some you might find with Live's search.
RJ Dubya knows the SL really well, look for his posts. I can't help much, mine's boxed up ready for a move.
oh, and I didn't need the new download for it to work, it just worked with the beta.

Yes, worked fine with the Beta. There were problems with Midi jitter over USB when the LCD of the Remote were refreshed by Live, but that is promised to be solved by the new Novation version (and did not pose a problem when using Midi cables along the USB cable for keyboard playing anyway).

I got a Remote SL and I was going to post a thread saying exactly this but its probably due to me not knowing how the flip to use this thing. Its utterly bizarre. Sometimes stuff sends MIDI that I can assign, sometimes it doesn't and I can't seem to figure out how to get that under control.

I feel ya, it's a weird device, mine has pretty much worked out of the box but i did wrestle with bpm control (which I don't use I was just curious.) that's why I can't really post simple instructions to fix it.
places to look:
global options on the SL, setting the ports correctly. there's still confusion about whether you use A or B, try them both.
also, there's a stupid way the menus are setup. I think the global menu shows this poor setup, hit global menu once and you see one set of menus, hit it again and there's another set of menus.
other than that, my advice would be to
use template 40
have the thing turned on and connected before you start Live
set it up under Control Surfaces in the Options menu
use the USB connection
be patient and experiment with the settings. don't edit the templates until you get it working, then screw around.

one quick question though
notice how the drum pad mappings are totally messed up when using the Remote SL with the Drum Racks?
I worked around it by assigning the notes manually in the SL. But then the note order is totally messed up for other plugins
not really a bug with the SL i think just somethiing weird about the Drum Rack.
Anyone care to share some knowledge?

I brought that up as a bug, Amaury said it was done on purpose. I don't like it at all, they're even backwards in sets of 4. from a corporate Ableton/Novation view I can see where they're coming from utilize the SL as much as you can, design around the SL as if the drum pads were THAT cool.

Can you spell this out me mate? I can't figure out the logic to the drum racks at all, regarding pad placement, and now I am also experienceing problems where the range of notes seem out of wack (example, eic2:upright bass). I am losing track of what is a hardware erred and what is software related.

Sorry I should have said, "wasn't working for me"
[quote-you don't select the plug-in specific templates on the SL, one of the Live specific templates.[/quote]
When I do that there is no difference in the mapping between the VST's there are templates for and the ones there are no templates for. ie it just maps all the parameters in the order it find them rather than having them set up how they look when you scroll to them on the SL using data/select (ie filter cut off/res on the left and adsr etc on the right). Also, when I do that I always have Live Automap on the right side. How can I use the whole SL to control 1 VST?
if it works in 6 then the SL is set up right, do you have the control surface options set in the preferences?
Sorry I thought I said that. Yeah everything under midi settings is identical. Using remore SL: port2 as that is what works in 6 for me.
do you get the blue hand on the VST window at the bottom of Live?
Yeah, but when i've selected a plugin the only time I can control it is when using Live Automap which only works for me in 6.

OK thanks anyway. I'll keep trying.

Hi Barry Fell.
I was having similar problems of SL automap not working with live 7, but with Live 6 it was all cool. Tone Deft is right. ( not often he is wrong )
Look closely at your setup in midi sync preferences. Even though on the Novation site, it says to use Control Surface Input/Outputs as port 2 only, I noticed in Live 6, my Input/Output preferences were both in port 1.
Once I changed these, BINGO.
Such a small thing, but now its all fine.
Hope you get it all up and running.
Cheers.

I could have sworn I checked that but i'll check again. Thanks
