hi,
i'm having trouble using a midi controller to select and launch clips.
basically what i'd like to do is have 5 buttons to select clips (more or less equivalent to the cursor controls on a keyboard plus one more)
left - scroll track to the left
right - scroll track to the right
up/down - scroll clips in selected tracks
launch - launch slected clips
Is there some kind of macro mapping i need for this .... i feel like a dummy, but i haven't seen this in the forums with a few searches.
thanks

Hi,
you can come ery close to what you'd like simply doing like this:
open your project and click the midi mode map switch top right in the session view window. After that, you'll notice that right below the stop clip button in the master session (just upper pre/post send switches) will appear two arrows, a "play" icon and a "number" button; please note you won't be able to see them until you are not in midi map mode.....these works exactly the way you'd like: up and down between scenes(arrows), play scene, move across scene (number button) just assign the right midi control from your controller.
have fun

Or you can fake your midi controller to be a "mackie" (do a search on the forum)... I have my midi control setup with arrow-keys faking it to be a mackie. Or you can use an application called "midipipe" (if you're on a mac) - it can translate midi into keys shortcuts.

I never would've noticed those little buttons that show up only in MIDI map mode! That is a huge help.
One more question that I have is if there is any way to transport MIDI mappings from one scene to another... or, alternately, load pre-programmed MIDI maps?

belated thanks for the replies guys - this is very helpful.
I bought an MPD32 about a week before the Ableton controller came out and I'm trying my hardest not to go out and buy another piece of gear. Or at least a different piece of geat

Try out nativeKontrol's programs for the MPD32. Very well could be the ticket you're looking for.

You're going to have to try pretty hard not to get this new thingy. . .

I'm having a bit of trouble with this. I use the up/down SCENE select but there doesn't seem to be an option for left/right TRACK select, which is really doing my head in! - I've disable the spring load of my Remote SL MK2 and am trying to use the pitch/mod stick to select between tracks and scenes for DJing.
Any ideas?
also, as a side note, I notice that by assigning the scene select to an infinite encoder I lose the ability to invert the range so at the moment down is up and up is down

There are many solutions to that offered in this forum already if you search for it. The easiest way is to use Tranzport emulation or the Selected Track Control (offered in this forum; mac only)

actually the tranzport emulation i mentioned is built into Live "natively". You just select it in Live's preferences under Control Surface.
