Devices turning themselves off??

Hi there,

I'm wondering if someone can point me in the right direction here. I have a m-audio Radium 49 usb keyboard that keeps turning devices off (vst's, or ableton plugs) all by itself. In other words, I'll be playing guitar, not even touching the keyboard and all of of sudden my guitar sim vst will turn off.

I know it's the radium, because if I unplug it the problem goes away. This happens in Live 6 or 7.

Can anyone help me out? I guess it's sedning some kind of "off message", but I don't know why or how to change that.

Thanks! It's driving me nuts and I literally can't work without unplugging the thing which isn't very helpful either.

so uh. are you device midi mapped to anything? because they arent then theres an issue with ableton. or with your computer, what OS are you using? i know that theres some issues with windows and USB devices, shutting them down from time to time, and when that happens it can mess up live.

No, I've checked Midi mappings in Ableton and there isn't a single thing mapped. I'm running WinXP and Ableton 7. I've also got Cubase 4, but I haven't noticed the issue there, although I don't use it as much since I've really gotten into Live.

It's really strange. Like I said, the keyboard is definitely doing it because if I unplug it the behavior goes away, so I don't really think it's an issue with Live itself. I assume it's sending some kind of midi message.....but I just don't know enough about midi messages and such to trace the problem.

I've had this setup for over a year (with Live 6 and Cubase SX3 before this) and this behavior just started. I'm not sure that I can pinpoint it to the install of Live 7, I believe it started a few weeks ago, back on Live 6.

With this midi keyboard it's always been just a plug and play kinda thing, so it's weird that all of a sudden it's turning devices off. And, everything else on the keyboard works as far as being able to map it and whatnot.

Any help is definitely appreciated!

Tonight maybe I'll delete the keyboard usb driver and reinstall from scratch just to see what happens.

yeah, thats a good idea, to update your drivers. you havent set it up for mackie emulation or something right? no custom scripts or anything?

one thing you could do while youre at it is to check your manual and see what kind of messages it sends (ie which channel and what number), aswell as possibly download the enigma midi programmer software and reprogram it to other messages if it doesnt solve it. if none of these things works, then its live i guess. my radium hasnt turned my devices off for me any time, but it does occasionally send out the wrong data, aswell as send out data all by itself without me even touching it.

thats what you get for buying halfassed "quality" devices ;)

Thanks, I'll try that tonight and see if I can just get the thing back to normal.

And nope, no makie emulation or anything. It's literally just plugged in, activated in the midi setup screen and that's it....no mappings, nothing.

very odd. do some testing and make a little log of it and post the result here so we can try to pinpoint the problem, aye?

if youre unlucky it might just be (yet another) bug with l7 and controllers.
