Drum Racks and pK

Not sure if it's been addressed yet, but there's a bug with Drum Racks and padkontrol as a control surface. Sometimes (not too often) the pads on the pK won't be the same as the current scene set on the drum rack (eg. pad 13 on pK will play pad 1 on drum rack). But when you go to scroll up the grid to another section of the drum rack, then go back again it will work fine again.

This has happened to me a few times.

Try changing the Midi port your padKontrol is connected to from DirectMusic to MME. PK drivers are not native DirectMusic drivers and using emulated ones can lead to all kinds of problems.

Where abouts do I change that? I'm on a Macbook Pro, plugged through USB.

Sorry then, this is a Windows only setting. ;)

Anyone else experience this?

I've now set my startup template to have Drum Rack, armed on the first channel and the bug is consistant now. Eg, when I start up Live now with the pK on and press a pad, it won't be the same pad on the drum rack. But going to a different section on the grid of the drum rack, then going back again, it will be fine.

Ableton? Aware of this?

Timur, how do you do that on Windows then?

Preferences -> Midi, click on the little arrow left to the Port Name, change Port Type to MME.

Do that for all USB midi ports and all virtual midi ports (MidiYoke etc).

Hi,
I'm more than just a little frustrated with this. XP Pro SP2 running Live 7, padkontrol doesn't do anything like the vid with drumracks. I set everything up a dozen different ways, including the MME setting...which was amazing. I still get the padkontrol just hitting normal notes regardless of the pad selector position on the right.

What is going on?!

Just for future reference, I got a reply from Ableton saying they're aware of the problem and it will be fixed in the next update.

UNISUN, reset your pK (hold SCENE, press FIXED VELOCITY then press SETTING while it's flashing). Then set it up in Live again by enabling the control surface and Input, then enabling Track and Remote for PADKONTROL PORT A.
