Mash up mastering questions...

Ok I managed to make my 1st simple mash up in Live 7, edited accapella over a house track, but havine some problems with sound volumes.
I am new to production so could do with some help on how to use lives eq's and any VST plug ins to get the vocal to be more prominent in the track and flow with the backing track.
Should I be sidechaining the vocals with the track ?
Both accapella and dance track are from digital pro files so shouldnt need much mastering after I have them sitting in the track properly... I hope
